‘…an enjoyable and entertaining collection of six pieces. Each has its own title and style, which encourages the pupil to explore the expressive qualities of the music. Alan Ridout has carefully thought about the range in this album, so that there is a natural progression from piece to piece. “Daybreak” and “Morning Mist”, for example, go no higher than D, whereas “Sunbeams”, a tricky Vivace, extends the range up to E. “Hazy Afternoon”, a lazy Adagio, poses some tricky rhythms, whilst “Starshine” challenges the pupil with four flats - a key signature so often neglected by young players. The highest note in this collection is top G, which appears in the final piece, “Harvest Moon”, which is also in 5/4 time. A useful feature of both albums was the easy piano accompaniment.’ The Horn Magazine
